OVERVIEW
The Oracle at Delphi said that no-one was wiser than Socrates; though he himself recognised that the root of his wisdom was not that he knew more than anybody else but that he alone knew the limits to his own knowledge.
We at Consulting for Asset Management share Socrates’ definition of wisdom – recognising how little it is possible to truly know in an uncertain and ever changing business environment. We adopt Socrates’ method for learning and problem solving – having an open mind and carrying out extensive questioning to fully understand what is at the root of an issue.
Where we differ from Socrates is that we aim to offer results – practical proposals derived from our analyses - as wisdom is, in our opinion, wasted if it does not put forward its own ideas.
We like to think our unique wisdom lies in the breadth of our experience; understanding and being expert in a range of disciplines. For example, many typical challenges facing asset management firms require a high degree of understanding of both investments and regulation, or risk and operations, or information technology and marketing, and we are comfortable with all these different aspects of an asset management firms activities.
For example, UCITS III calls for the development of a Risk Management Process. Clearly, the mathematical skills of the risk professional are required. However, as the document must follow regulatory guidelines, the linguistic and legal skills of compliance or legal professionals are also necessary. Typically, these professionals speak very different languages. Consulting for Asset Management staff are experts in both the mathematical techniques of risk analysis and the legalistic approach of regulators and are well equipped to bridge the communication gap and help achieve an efficient solution.
The focus of Consulting for Asset Management's expertise is the UCITS environment in the European Union (EU). However, as this platform is typically used to market mutual funds on a global basis we are able to offer advice to asset management firms around the world.
In addition to consultancy and training we are also able to offer, through our partners EM Applications, Atlas Computer Systems and DDAV Analytics, selected software and outsource solutions to common problems in our areas of expertise.
